Greyt Stuff GAP supporter blog - Once Upon A Kind

Hi, I’m Oliver, Founder of Once Upon A Kind. I grew up surrounded by fast fashion, waste, and the sense that so many things — and lives — were treated as disposable. That never felt right.
When I discovered greyhounds, everything changed. These elegant, gentle dogs are full of life, yet often overlooked once their racing days are over. I was inspired by adoption groups like GAP (Greyhounds As Pets), who give them the second chance they deserve. I wanted to do the same — not just for greyhounds, but for high-quality materials too.
That’s how Once Upon A Kind began: greyhound jackets made with love, style, and purpose.
Our Upcycled Bespoke range transforms high-end women’s jackets into one-of-a-kind greyhound coats. Each piece is handcrafted from premium natural fabrics like wool — celebrating greyhounds’ grace while giving garments a second life.
Our Winter Leisure range offers a more accessible option, using quality end-of-line fabrics that would otherwise go to waste. The result? Practical, stylish jackets designed to keep your greyhound warm and cherished.
This journey started when I was seven — sketching dog jackets and dreaming of having a dog of my own. Years later, I finally found that connection in greyhounds, and have spent months walking them, fitting jackets, and learning from adopters — their insights have helped me shape jackets that better serve you, the customer.

Creating Once Upon A Kind is about quiet impact — helping greyhounds feel seen, valued, and warm. If you’ve bought a jacket, I’d love to hear your feedback — positive or constructive: oliver.jones@onceuponakind.co.nz.
Your insights help us improve and create the best jackets for you and your greyhound. You’re at the heart of everything we do.
