Creating Calm Spaces for Greyhounds: Our Partnership with Beloved Pet Furniture
Posted by Christine Flatley on
Hi, we’re Bess and Stu - the makers behind Beloved Pet Furniture - and we’re proud to support Greyhounds as Pets (GAP) NZ.

We share our home with two rescue dogs and cats adopted through SPCA. Animals have been a huge part of our lives, and combining that love with Stu’s passion for design and craftsmanship led us to start Beloved Pet Furniture five years ago. What began with a handmade Crate Surround prototype shared in a Facebook dog group quickly grew into a business dedicated to creating beautiful, practical pieces for pet-loving homes.
One of the things we care deeply about - especially for newly adopted Greyhounds, is helping dogs feel safe while they settle in.
Creating a Safe Space for Your Greyhound
Bringing home a Greyhound is exciting, but it’s also a big adjustment for them. Having a dedicated crate or safe space can make a world of difference during those first few weeks.
Here are a few simple guidelines to help your Greyhound decompress:
Choose the right location
Place the crate in a quiet area of your home where your dog can rest undisturbed, but still feel part of the household. Avoid high-traffic or noisy spots.
Make it comfortable
Greyhounds love softness. Add thick, supportive bedding and cosy blankets to create a warm, inviting space.
Keep it calm and positive
Never use the crate as punishment. Let your Greyhound explore it at their own pace, using gentle encouragement and treats if needed.
Create a den-like feel
Covering part of the crate or using a Crate Surround can help create a secure, enclosed environment that feels safe and relaxing.
Allow decompression time
Many Greyhounds benefit from quiet downtime after walks, outings, or new experiences. Their safe space gives them somewhere predictable to reset.
We especially love Greyhounds for their calm, gentle nature and affectionate yet independent personalities. They truly thrive when given comfort, routine, and a space of their own.
